VRC to apply IT in disaster management
PANO -The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS)’s Central Committee held a conference on July 2 to introduce IT applications in disaster management in Vietnam.
Addressing the meeting, Vice President of the VRCS’s Central Committee Tran Quoc Hung said that the Society has been among the first forces giving support to people in disaster-hit areas.
To make its support effective, the Society has focused on building an initial disaster response force, connection with local response forces and the International Red Cross Movement.
So far, the Society has set up disaster response teams at central, provincial, district and communal levels.
In 2016, it signed a coordination program with the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control. Last year, the Society and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development inked a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in natural disaster prevention and control, focusing on developing all-level disaster response teams to help improve disaster relief and promote international cooperation in disaster prevention and control.
To make the disaster prevention and control and disaster relief more effectively, Microsoft Vietnam has assisted the society to apply IT in disaster management, so as to better the management over response forces’ members, create favorable conditions for information collection, damage report and assessment, and to update locals with disaster developments.
In the coming time, training courses on IT applications in disaster management will be opened in nine provinces and cities with the engagement of all-level response teams. Besides, related documents and video clips will be made to boost IT applications in disaster management at the Society.
