Vietnamese students win a gold medal at FIRST Global Challenge 2023.

FIRST Global Challenge is the world's largest Robotics competition for high school students, which  takes place in a different country  every year. Each country sends a team to build and program a robot for the competition. Teams later work together to complete duties in a game with topic about one of biggest challenges facing the world.

This year’s competition took place from October 7 to 10 in Singapore with the participation of 191 countries and territories.

The theme of this year’s competition was Hydrogen Horizons, a global hot topic. In this contest, participating students used their creativity and problem-solving skills to design and build a skilled robot from a standard kit of parts. Then, they navigated the robots in the simulated world to produce hydrogen and use it to store, transport, and convert energy.

This is the biggest STEM achievement in the history of Vietnam so far.

Do Hoang Sam, a member of STEM Vietnam Alliance, said that Vietnamese students’ result at this competition was the biggest STEM achievement of Vietnam so far. “This result will contribute to promoting STEM education. This also shows that the education sector needs to pay more attention to and create more favorable conditions for STEM development activities in schools,” Sam said.

The success of the Vietnamese team at this event was attributed to the team’s good preparations, the great effort of each member, and the support of scientists and robot experts.
