WED2016, themed “Fighting illegal wildlife trade”, aims to call upon people to join hands in protecting wildlife, as well as to live friendly with environment and reduce pressure on the natural ecosystem of the Earth.

Vietnam is one of the nine countries that first responded to the World Ocean Day in 2009 with the organization of the Vietnam’s Sea and Islands Week, following the Government’s decree No. 25/2009/ND-CP.

To sustainably manage and use the sea and islands’ resources and environment, the week under the theme “For Blue Ocean” featured various activities, such as “Volunteer youths cleaning the beaches” movement, bike parade to disseminate information on maritime environment, and planting trees along the coastal line to stop waves.

The highlight of the event was a meeting with the participation of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Nam Dinh provincial People’s Committee.
