Vietnam’s information and communication technologies (ICT) sector will be dominated by five technological trends in the time to come, a computing expert has predicted.
Chu Tien Dung, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association (HCA), told a seminar in HCM City on September 20 that the complex trends - bearing the technical terms cloud computing, big data, mobile computing, social networks and the Internet of Things – are becoming increasingly important in Vietnam and can help boost the application of ITC products in all sectors.
The seminar, themed “Vietnam Information and Communication Technologies Outlook,” has provided an opportunity for relevant organisations and businesses to share their viewpoints on Vietnam’s ICT preparations ahead of the country’s integration into the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015, he said.
Sharing Dung’s views, Nguyen Hong Minh, Director of the Vietnam Data Communication Centre 2, said the growing trends, especially cloud computing, will create an effective foundation for businesses to rapidly expand their operations.
The annual event also provided a panorama of the country’s present ICT infrastructure. According to Tran Nguyen Chung from the Ministry of Information and Communications, the country’s ICT sector has sustained its stable growth despite the slow economic recovery.
He urged ICT businesses to increase their efforts and called for State incentives to maintain the sector’s stable and sustainable performance throughout the remainder of 2013, when the economy is forecast to face more difficulties.
The seminar was jointly held by the HCA, the municipal Department of Information and Communications and the municipal Department of Science and Technology.
