Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has appreciated the great support and assistance that international friends and organisations have provided to Vietnam, helping the country to overcome difficulties in recent times.

Mr Dung expressed his appreciation at a banquet in honour of the Diplomatic Corps in Hanoi on September 1 on the occasion of Vietnam’s 63rd National Day (September 2).

He said Vietnam celebrated National Day this year at a time when it is making every effort to implement its 2006-2010 socio-economic development plan with the aim of lifting the country from the under-developed status and paving the way for it to become an industrialised nation by 2020.

Besides great achievements and advantages, he said the country is facing certain difficulties due to negative effects of the global economic downturn as well as its own economic weaknesses.

Vietnam gives top priority to implementing the Government’s adopted solutions to control inflation, stabilise the macro economy and ensure social welfare,” he said.

He thanked governments and people of countries worldwide, diplomats and representatives from international organisations for their support to and effective cooperation with Vietnam over the past years.

Argentinean Ambassador Tomas Ferrari, Head of Diplomatic Corps in Hanoi, praised Vietnam’s achievements and affirmed that the international community will continue to provide support to help the country carry out the Doi Moi (Renewal) process successfully.
