PANO - A solid waste treatment plant was officially put into operation on Ly Son Island in the Central province of Quang Ngai on June 4th by the Vietnam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

It was the first solid waste treatment project to be built in the island district.

The plant, located on an area of 2ha, has had a total investment capital of over VND 30 billion and an average handling capacity of 12 tons of solid waste per day.

Until the end of this year, the Administration’s Department of Waste Management and Environmental Improvement is in charge of supporting the island district in operating the plant, before handing it over to the local people.

Chairman of the district People’s Committee Tran Ngoc Nguyen held that the plant would contribute to improving the environmental criteria in the new rural development program in the locality and also improving the living environment of islanders and coral reefs on the island.
