Tram Chim National Park in Tam Nong district is home to more than 231 bird species, including 32 rare ones, and 16 ones listed in Vietnam’s Red Book. February is an ideal time for visitors to come to Tram Chim to witness storks flying overhead in the wetland of Tram Chim. The flocks of birds with brilliant colors are like a fashion show.

Visiting Tram Chim, tourists have a chance to admire an ancient Southwestern region with flocks of storks flying in the sky, schools of fish splashing in the water, and many plant species that seem to have disappeared. Especially, it is easy to catch flocks of openbill storks – a species of bird that helps farmers eliminate harmful organisms. In addition, there are many other bird species, including storks, Anhinga melanogaster, Ardea cinerea, and Porphyrio poliocephalus.

Birds mainly flock to C1 and C2 areas as these areas have abundant food sources.

However, this year, there have been not many red-crowned cranes - the symbol of Tram Chim, migrating to the park. Recently, Dong Thap province has approved the project on the preservation of red-crowned cranes, with a total investment of VND 185 billion. As planned, the province will receive the first two red-crowned cranes out of a total of 60 ones from Thailand.

Tourism activities in Tram Chim National Park take place all year round; however, there are some typical seasons. “Nhi can tim,” a species of flowers of Lentibulariaceae, is often in full bloom in late January and early February. Another flower species is Xyris indica. It often blooms from March to May. In this photo: A field turns yellow with blooming Xyris indica. During the blooming season, this place attracts a large number of tourists.

Visitors can also see white and red water lilies stretching along the river. When harvesting water lilies in Tram Chim, local people often tie them into bundles for easy transportation. There are many delicious dishes made from water lilies, such as salad, stir-fries, soups, and others.

Apart from tourists, there are a lot of photographers coming to Tram Chim National Park. An, a photographer, shared that in order to take photos of wild bird species, photographers must be patient and have a good camera and lens.

To enter the park, visitors must buy a ticket and hire a boat. They are not allowed to drop litter during the journey. In addition to outdoor activities, visitors can tour the museum featuring freshwater fish and birds. Especially, during floating season (from August to November), the park organizes tours in which tourists can experience local activities, including fishing with lift-nets, catching mice, and more.

Currently, Dong Thap does not have its own airport. Therefore, visitors must fly to Can Tho province and then move to Cao Lanh city (Dong Thap province). Tram Chim is situated in Tam Nong district, about 30km from Cao Lanh city of Dong Thap Muoi. If departing from Ho Chi Minh City, visitors can catch coaches from companies such as Phuong Trang, Kim Cuong, or Quoc Hoang.
