At the anchoring position, there are 23 warships of ten countries participating in LIMA 2023. On May 28, the ships are divided into three groups (different colors on screen) to move to designated waters.

After establishing a formation, ships gradually move to their set position in agreed distances. It is very important to keep a stable speed among warships.
A diagram of warships’ positions is set up for aerial photography. Ship 20 is named VPNS 20 in column E.
After warships completely arrive at their designated positions, the host country Malaysia uses three helicopters to take aerial photography.

After finishing aerial photography, helicopters fly in low altitude to take photos of and salute each warship.
After the aerial photography, warships continue to move in formation and salute each other at sea. The photo above show how Ship 20 (VPN) conducts this content. On the afternoon of May 28, Ship 20 and the delegation continue to sail to Makassar city, South Sulawesi province, Indonesia to join the fourth Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK-4) hosted by Indonesian Navy from June 4 to 8.
Ship20’s trips to Malaysia and Indonesia aims to realize directions of the Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defense on international integration and defense diplomacy, while boosting troops’ ability to closely work together in response to common challenges in maritime security, promoting sound friendship and cooperation between the military of Vietnam and the Vietnam People’s Navy with militaries and navies of other countries.

This is how troops take aerial photographs of warships in formation at LIMA 2023

PANO - The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense sent Ship 20 with the delegation of the Vietnam People’s Navy on board, led by Naval Senior Captain Nguyen Quoc Quang, Second-in-Command of Naval Region 3, to partake in LIMA 2023. From May 23 to 27, the delegation joined a number of activities such as fleet review, conferences, visiting an exhibition, sporting exchange, and culinary festival, contributing to the success of the event and leaving deep impression on other naval forces and local people.

One part of the event is to take aerial photos of the ships and it is a challenge for over 20 warships to move in formation for aerial photography.

Here are photos on how troops did this task during a Sea Exercise - the final part of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2023 held in Malaysia from May 23 to 28.
