PANO - The new rice celebration of the Jrai people (Gia Lai province) was displayed at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism (Son Tay town, Hanoi).

The ceremony was part of activities within the framework of the “Great Unity of Ethnic Groups - Vietnamese Cultural Heritage” week 2022.

The new rice celebration is one of the important agricultural rituals of the Jrai ethnic people. The ceremony, held annually in December after the harvest season, often takes place at the communal house at around 9 a.m.

After preparing the offerings, the village patriarch shows gratitude to deities and ancestors to pray for a bumper crop in the next season, favorable weather conditions, good health, prosperity and happiness all year round.

The ceremony consists of cultural rituals and festive activities. Before festive activities including gong performances and dancing, a meritorious artisan performs traditional rituals and presents offerings to deities.

Meanwhile, visitors can have a chance to dance with the Jrai people, and enjoy alcohol and traditional food until the end of the ceremony.
