PANO - The Ho Chi Minh City Military Command kicked off a military sports competition on May 9.

During the event, participating teams from military units, local military force, and militia force will compete in line-up regulations, obstacle crossing, strong soldiers, swimming, run, un-armed martial art, shooting, emergency first aid and medical evacuation techniques. The competition is scheduled to be completed in May.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Commander of the Ho Chi Minh City Military Command Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nam said that the military sports competition is a key mission in the local military and defense work this year. It aims to evaluate the outcomes of training and physical fitness of the armed forces of the city.

The results of the competition will contribute to enhancing the management and training organization capabilities of officers at all levels to meet the requirement of missions in the new period and selecting the best athletes to participate in higher level’s sports events.

On behalf of Ho Chi Minh City’s leadership, Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Dung highly appreciated the command’s thorough preparation for the event and asked the organizing panel to focus on detecting new outstanding athletes and drawing good experience, thus raising the quality of training and combat readiness capability of agencies, units, and the city’s armed forces.
