PANO - The 2014 Komodo multilateral naval exercise, themed “Cooperation for Stability”, with the focus on humanitarian aid and disaster relief, was officially kicked off on the Indonesian island of Batam on March 29th.

Vietnam sent Hospital Ship HQ-561 (or Khanh Hoa-01) and a delegation of 70 troops, led by Real Admiral Phan Xuan Diep, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy, to join the exercise. 

During the 6-day exercise, 18 participating countries with 4,885 troops and ships are carrying out different contents of exercise, such as conducting search and rescue at sea, sending messages by semaphore, rescuing a troubled ship, providing first aid for victims, and so on.
