A banquet was held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on February 16 celebrating the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.  

The event was organised by the Vietnamese Association (UGVF) in co-ordination with the Vietnamese Students’ Association (UEVF) and the Vietnamese Youth Association (UJVF) in France.

Present at the banquet were Vietnamese Ambassador to France Duong Chi Dung, Ambassador Duong Van Quang, Head of the Vietnamese permanent mission to UNESCO, representatives of some embassies, international organisations, Overseas Vietnamese in France, and French and international friends.

Thérèse Nguyen Van Ky, UGVF President, said the association annually organises Tet for Overseas Vietnamese providing traditional dishes and giving art performances to help them ease homesickness.

Participants were treated to a special art performance, including pieces written by composers Van Cao, Trinh Cong Son, Pham Duy, and Ho Bac, as well as world renowned talents Bach, Beethoven and Gerswhin.

A song and dance performance by Vietnamese children in France left good impression on audiences.

At the function, organisers arranged a rural market session offering a wide range of traditional specialties such as spring rolls, rice and fruit.
