Search and repatriation of martyrs' remains from Laos to be stepped up
PANO - The Steering Board for the Search and Collection of Fallen Soldiers’ Remains (Steering Board 1237 in short) of Military Region (MR) 4 hoped to receive further assistance from Savannakhet’s special mission in the search and repatriation of sets of remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers from Laos.
This was stated by Major General Tran Tien Dung, head of the working delegation of the steering board, during a meeting with the Special Mission of Laos’ Savannakhet province on the work on December 12.
The Vietnamese side also expected that the Lao side will continue mobilizing people to provide information about burial locations of Vietnamese fallen soldiers and instructing forces to create favorable condition for the MR’s martyrs’ remains search and collection teams to effectively implement the mission.
Over the past time, the Lao mission has actively instructed relevant agencies and units to team up with MR 4’s teams to find and gather remains of Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed while doing international service in Laos. Thanks to the province’s support, Search and Collection Team 584 of the Quang Tri provincial Military Command collected and repatriated more than 5,300 sets of remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers. In the first two months of the 2016-2017 dry season alone, the team found 11 sets of remains of soldiers.
