In his opening remarks, GS Deputy Chief Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan affirmed that in 2023, the GS required agencies and units in the whole military to accomplish military and defense tasks, as well as directed its affiliated units to build comprehensively-strong, “typical and exemplary” agencies and units.

Meanwhile, the whole military and the militia force strictly observed combat readiness regulations; closely coordinated with functional forces to maintain political stability and ensure absolute safety during significant events of the country and the military; successfully organized exercises; and focused on raising troops’ capabilities in cyber warfare and electronic warfare; among others.

The GS ensured safety of personnel and vehicles engaging in natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue operations.

Concluding the event, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong applauded the outstanding achievements obtained by the agencies and units in their task performance, and pointed out shortcomings that need to be addressed in the coming time.

Regarding the key tasks in 2024 and the following years, Gen. Cuong requested the GS to forecast and follow situations and offer timely recommendations to the Party, State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense to cope with arising issues.

The GS affiliated units should maintain combat readiness posture and political stability while ensuring safety during festivals, Tet holidays, and important political events of the country, and preparing sufficient forces for all missions, to name but a few.

They should thoroughly follow situations and build specific plans to respond to natural disasters, conduct search and rescue operations, and prevent and control pandemics and environmental incidents. The inspection of the quality of weapons and technical equipment should be enhanced in accordance with the regulations of the State and the Ministry of National Defense.
