The event was chaired by Sr. Lt. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister.

Speaking at the event, General Giang required all military units to continue disseminating information related to the decisions of the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister on tree-planting movements, and to raise troops’ and employees’ awareness of the benefits and meaning of the action, as well as on protecting the ecological system and reducing the impacts of climate change.

The Deputy Defense Minister directed units to quickly build concrete tree-planting plans for the 2021-2025 period while choosing suitable times for implementing the plan in accordance with the conditions of crops and soil conditions in their stationed areas.

He urged them to implement comprehensive measures to protect the planted trees, prevent deforestation and forest fires, as well as mobilize locals to plant more trees and protect forests.

After the launching ceremony, troops of military schools and units in the locality planted 1,400 trees at the shooting range and in the precinct of the Army Officer Training School No.1. According to Lt. Gen. Tran Duy Giang, Commander of the Department of Logistics, the whole military will have planted around 15 million trees by 2025.

* The same day, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang paid a working visit to the Army Officer Training School No.1 to inspect the unit’s task performance over the past time.

Addressing the working session with the unit’s leadership, General Giang asked the school’s Party committee and chains of command to continue embracing higher levels’ resolutions, improving training quality, and maintaining military discipline, contributing to building a comprehensive strong unit.
