Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen briefed delegates on the developments of COVID-19 in HCMC and the outcomes of pandemic prevention and control in the city over the past time. He took the occasion to thank the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense for their timely direction on the establishment of field hospitals for infectious diseases and dispatch of forces to support the city’s efforts in controlling the virus.

HCMC’s leader added that as requested by the city, leaders of the Ministry of National Defense directed agencies and units to send support forces to Southern localities, including Ho Chi Minh City. Military forces actively participated in COVID-19 testing, took care of infection cases, worked at medical checkpoints and ensured adequate food and necessities for local people during quarantine and lock-down periods. Their efforts have been acknowledged and highly appreciated by local people.

Mentioning the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh municipal Party Committee hoped that the Ministry of National Defense will continue keeping its forces standby to support Ho Chi Minh City when needed and assist the city in adapting to the new situation after the pandemic is controlled.

Speaking at the conference, General Giang expressed his delight at the peaceful environment in Ho Chi Minh City after the pandemic is under control. The defense leader lauded Ho Chi Minh City for mobilizing the whole political system, closely coordinating with ministries and agencies and taking strict measures to contain the pandemic.

The Defense Minister affirmed that the ministry was and will be ready to support Ho Chi Minh City in responding to the pandemic. He strongly believed that Ho Chi Minh City will soon regain its socio-economic development and affirmed that in any circumstances the military will always be ready to support Ho Chi Minh City and other localities.

General Giang also expected that the municipal Party Organization, authorities and people will always trust and create favorable conditions for military force to fulfill missions assigned by the Party and State.
