Central Military Commission gathers retired senior officers
PANO - The Central Military Commission on January 5 held a gathering for retired senior officers of the Vietnam People's Army in Hanoi, under the chair of General Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of National Defense.
The ceremony were attended by former senior officers, including General Nguyen Quyet, former Director of the General Department of Politics; General Pham Van Tra, former Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Pham Thanh Ngan, former Director of the General Department of Politics; and present VPA leaders including Senior Lieutenant General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics; Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, Deputy Defense Minister, and representatives of the ministry's relevant units and over 700 retired senior officers, who are now living in Hanoi.
At the event, General Lich extended his greetings to the delegates and briefed them on major domestic and international political and military developments, socio-economic development, external affairs of the State and Party, defense-security missions over the past year; forecasts for 2017 and the subsequent years. The minister also stressed that the meeting was a good chance for retired senior officers to express their opinions and share their experiences, making contribution to reinforcing the national defense-security, building the army and safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
On the occasion of the New Year 2017, General Lich, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, hoped that the retired officers would continue encouraging and sharing experience with troops on duty, contributing to building a revolutionary, regular, elite and gradually-modernized army, deserved with the traditions that were built and promoted over the past 72 years.
