Army sports competition opens
PANO - The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army opened a sport competition for troops in the whole army on Nov. 27 at the Mieu Mon National Training Center in celebration of the 73rd founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22, 1944-2017) and the 28th anniversary of the whole-people defense day.
Present at the ceremony were Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong, Deputy Chief of the General Staff and head of the steering committee for the competition; Major General Le Hien Van, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics; Vuong Bich Thang, Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and over 2,300 athletes, coaches, and officials involved in the event.

This year’s event aimed to assess the quality of physical training and sports activities of the whole-army units, thus contributing to improving combat readiness and fitness for troops as well as meeting their task requirements in the current context.
Addressing the opening ceremony, General Huong stressed that the army’s sport movement has increasingly been promoted, and many athletes have been honored at domestic and international competitions. He said that it is a practical event to boost physical training and sport activities in the whole army while helping select outstanding athletes for national-level sports competitions in 2018.
