The Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) will continue helping the central province of Thua Thien-Hue to clear bombs, mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) left from the war.
NPA Country Director for Vietnam Jonathon Guthrie made the commitment during his visit to the province on January 30.
He thanked the local authorities and relevant agencies for creating favourable conditions for his organisation’s operations over the past years.
At the reception for the NPA Director, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Truong Luu, spoke highly of activities the organisation has implemented in the locality over the past time, saying that they helped reduce bomb and mine threats and create uncontaminated soil for production.
Recently, the NPA has provided more than 1.6 million USD for a project to minimise bomb and mine threats in Huong Tra town and Phong Dien district, Thua Thien-Hue province, in the 2012-2014 period.
The NPA is an international non-governmental organisation operating in the humanitarian bomb and mine field. It is currently carrying out mine and bomb clearance projects in Quang Binh and Thua Thien Hue provinces.
