The Danish Embassy in Vietnam celebrated 45 years of the two countries’ diplomatic relationship with a gathering in Ho Chi Minh City on November 25.

Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Charlotte Laursen said over the last four and a half decades, Vietnam and Denmark have built up friendship and elevated it to a close partnership.

On the basis of mutual trust and respect, bilateral cooperation has been expanded to economy, culture, tourism and arts. Aside from the growing number of Danish companies doing business and investment in Vietnam, cultural and art exchanges have also been held frequently.

Danish people are becoming more interested in Vietnam and want to learn about its country and people, she said, adding that nearly 30,000 Danish tourists visited the Southeast Asian nation in 2015.

Speaking highly of Vietnam-Denmark cooperation, Le Quang Long, Acting Director of HCM City’s Department for External Relations, said Denmark is one of the first European countries to recognise and establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam, on November 25, 1971.

Bilateral relations have been flourishing since then and they have become comprehensive partners, he said, highlighting their strategic partnership in climate change response, energy, environment and green growth since 2011.

He said the countries’ sound connections are a favourable prerequisite for HCM City and Denmark to bolster cooperation activities.

Long expressed his hope that Denmark’s economic and trade office in HCM City will coordinate with municipal authorities to promote economic exchanges, thereby attracting more Danish investments in the southern hub of Vietnam.
