The event was part of the activity to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of Australia and Vietnam in 2023.
At the event, held at the Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mrs. Sarah Hooper congratulated the winner, saying, “We are pleased to see an entry that successfully combines well-known Australian and Vietnamese symbols into a simple and eye-catching logo that will be easily recognizable as representing the 50th anniversary.”
The winning logo was selected from more than 70 entries by Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski and Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh. The logo creates a 5-point Vietnamese star using the boomerang, an internationally recognized symbol of Australia. Apart from five-color version, the logo uses a gold version, which aligns with Australia’s green and gold national brand identity.
Mr. Tran Van Trung is a graduate of Industrial Arts and works for an education organization. He has fond memories of Sydney from attending a summer course at Macquarie University and looks forward to returning there next year using the logo prize for a pair of return fights to Australia, sponsored by Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways. He also wins two tickets to one of the VIP events being organized to celebrate the anniversary.
Receiving the prize, Trung commented, “When I heard my logo design had been chosen to promote 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam, I felt honored to have a small contribution to the celebration. Based on the message of the anniversary, I decided to choose connections as an idea to create the logo. The boomerangs create the star, the symbols of Australia and Vietnam. Regarding the color combination, I chose red representing Vietnam, dark blue representing Australia, green for agriculture, blue for the ocean and yellow for the prosperity of the two countries.”
Australia will celebrate the 50th anniversary in Vietnam throughout 2023 with a program covering all aspects of Australia-Vietnam relations – from education, agriculture, trade and investment, and tourism to climate cooperation, skills, innovation and equality. Highlights include a music showcase featuring artists from Australia and Vietnam, the Walking Through a Songlines digital art installation, a CSIRO innovation showcase and Taste of Australia events.

Speaking of the year, Ambassador Goledzinowski said, “Next year will be an opportunity not only to reflect on the achievements in the relationship over the past five decades, but also to look to the future of Australia and Vietnam’s ever deepening friendship and partnership. It’s going to be a very exciting and very busy year!”
