The visit was made at the invitation of Secretary of the Vientiane Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Committee and Mayor of the Lao capital city, Sinlavong Khutphaythoune.

On the first day, the Hanoi delegation paid courtesy visits to LPRP General-Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith, as well as Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

Lao President Bounnhang Vorachith welcomed the delegation and extended his best wishes to Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Vietnamese Party and State leaders.

The LPRP General-Secretary expressed his delight at Vietnam’s recent development achievements and congratulated the country on the successful APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and APEC Year 2017. He affirmed that the two sides have cooperated closely and implemented effectively all agreements reached by the two Parties and States, making contributions to the stability and development of each country as well as peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world as a whole.

The Lao President thanked the Vietnamese side for its effective supports over past times, and affirmed that Laos will work with Vietnam to preserve and promote their special friendship. He suggested the two capitals to promoting information and experience sharing and fostering cooperating in fields of mutual concern, such as infrastructure, urban management, trade development, tourism and training and human resource development.

Receiving the Hanoi delegation, Lao NA Chairwoman Pany Yathotou highly appreciated the visit, considering it an important event to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and 40 years of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, making contributions to promoting the fine traditional friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples and the two capitals in particular.

She also applauded the recent outcomes of the two capital cities’ cooperation and thanked Hanoi for supporting Vientiane over the past years. 

Talking with the Vietnamese delegates, Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith briefed them on Laos’ socio-economic situation, especially the outcomes of 30 years of renewal process and the implementation of the Resolution of the 10th Lao National Party Congress.

He said that under the leadership of the two Parties, the time-honored relationship between Vietnam and Laos has seen development and effective achievements in all fields and affirmed that there remains huge potential for Vietnam and Laos to promote their cooperation in economy, investment and trade. He added that there remains much room for the two capital cities to cooperate with each other and hoped that Hanoi will promote sharing its experiences with Vientiane in infrastructure building, urban management, and educational, cultural and social affairs.

On behalf of the delegation, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai congratulated Laos on its achievements and believed that the country will obtain more achievements in building a peaceful, independent, democratic, united and prosperous state.

He hoped that Lao leaders will create more favorable conditions for the two capitals to expand and boost their cooperation in the fields of their demand and potential, especially in urban construction and management, investment, trade, tourism, education-training, and human resources development.

Hai affirmed that Vietnam, including Hanoi will join efforts with the Lao Party, State and people to preserve and promote solidarity, the invaluable asset of both nations.
