During the meeting, he reaffirmed Vietnam’s policy of attaching importance to multilateral diplomacy, and underlined the country’s efforts to realise the UN millennium development goals (MDGs) and sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Vietnam has fulfilled many MDGs ahead of the schedule, and is working to achieve SDGs, he noted, adding that the country also contributed as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council during the 2008-2009 tenure, as a member of the International Labour Organisation Governing Body in 2011-2014 and the UN Human Rights Council in 2014-2016.
Vietnam is running for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure, showing the country’s wish to make more contributions to the international community, Dung added.
Vietnam will continue joining in works of the UN and international organisations in Geneva, he affirmed.
The ambassador also expressed his joy at the recent fruitful development of the relations between Vietnam and the UN, especially after Ban Ki-moon’s visit to Vietnam last year.
Vietnam values the General Secretary’s contributions to promoting the UN’s agenda and enhancing UN-Vietnam ties, he stressed.
UNOG General Director Michael Moller said he hopes Vietnam will continue making contributions to forums related to human rights, disarmament, humanity, health, and labour and to promoting cultural diversity within the UN.
Ambassador Dung thanked the UNOG for its support to Vietnam in recent years, expressing the hope that Vietnam’s permanent delegation to the UN and his office will expand their corporation.
