Watermelon in the mountainous district of Dong Xuan, Phu Yen Province, is being sold at VND 7,500 per kilogram, an increase of VND 2,000 per kilogram in comparison with the crop at the beginning of this year.

Do Ngoc Hai, a farmer in Binh Dinh Province, who rented crop-land in Xuan Lanh Commune to grow watermelon said this is the main crop of watermelon in the year, each hectare yielded up to 45 tonnes and many traders came to the fields to buy the products.

Farmer Tran Huynh Ngoc, of Dong Xuan District, estimates that his family could earn up to VND 160 million thanks to a good yield of watermelon.

There are more than 600 hectares under watermelon in Dong Xuan District, mostly in the communes of Xuan Lanh, Da Loc, Xuan Quang 1, Xuan Quang 3 and Xuan Phuoc.
