Bac Lieu attractive to foreign wind power firms
Authorities of the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu had separate meetings with two foreign firms, UPC Ranewables and Kimin Power, on feasibility study reports on wind power projects to be developed by the firms.
Meeting representatives from UPC Ranewables, the authorities were introduced to the firm which has invested over 3 billion USD in wind power projects around the globe with total capacity of more than 2,000MW.
The enterprise is planning a 200MW plant in Bac Lieu, which is expected to be completed in around 10 months through two phases. The company has finished surveys on transportation methods for equipment.
Addressing the session, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Duong Thanh Trung said that the province will create optimal conditions for UPC Ranewables to implement the project, which, he believes, will open up new prospects in renewable power production in Bac Lieu, the Mekong Delta region and the country as a whole.
At the working session with Kimin Power, Trung spoke highly of the firm’s capacity in wind power. He said that the Government has planned a wind power farm with 7,000MW in the province. Currently, the locality is calling for investments in a coastal area potentially generating 400MW.
Bac Lieu also has high potential in solar power thanks to its stable brilliant sunshine and very few storms and floods, he said.
The Kimin Power has three-year investment in Vietnam, mostly in central localities. The firm is seeking opportunities to install a plant capable of producing about 500MW in Bac Lieu.
Earlier on June 17, the businesses also made field trips to a number of places in Bac Lieu to seek suitable sites for their projects.
