Vietnamese magician wins international award
Vietnamese magician Huy Nguyen has been honored with the Merlin Award, which is presented to magicians who have achieved the highest level in their craft on the national and international stage.
The Merlin Award is to magic what the Oscar is to the movies or the Grammy is to the music industry. Several famous magicians worldwide have won the award, including David Copperfield (the United States), Lu Luchen (China) and Cosentino (Australia).

Other Vietnamese magicians who have received the award are Palmas Nguyen and Ngoc Minh Quang.
“Receiving this honor does not mean we are the best. It means we have to try harder and make greater efforts,” Huy said at the ceremony. “I hope more Vietnamese magicians will join hands to develop Vietnam’s magic.
Born in the central province of Khanh Hoa, Huy began pursuing his passion for performing magic tricks in 1994, but took up magic as a profession in 2012 after qualifying for the semi-final of Vietnam’s Got Talent.
He is currently a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the International Magicians Society. He is also the vice manager of the magic club at the Youth Cultural House in Ho Chi Minh City.
Many of his shows, such as Nguoi Bay (Flying Person) or Danh Trong Ao (Virtual Drum), have been performed on stages nationwide, receiving high appreciation from the audience. He has impressed the audience with his humorous, skillful and unique tricks.
Huy has said he plans to conduct more magic shows at public places within Ho Chi Minh City, such as parks, book streets or Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, to entertain more people.
