A traditional Vietnamese art performance took place in Paris, France on May 21, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Tien Tho.

The event was organised by the Secours Populaire Francais (SPF) in co-ordination with the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France.

National dances, folk songs and charming costumes attracted a crowd of French people and Overseas Vietnamese living in France.

SPF President Julien Laupretre said that through the event, the association wanted to confirm its solidarity and support for Vietnam, especially disadvantaged children and committed to long-term assistance projects in the country. In August, the SPF will receive some Vietnamese children flying to France on a special exchange programme, he noted.

Established in 1945, the association has conducted many charitable activities in Vietnam. In 1960s, the SPF provided 17 ambulances to the Vietnam Red Cross and has deployed over 20 assistance programmes between 1970 and 2010.

The SPF also provided rice for relief aid to 1,000 flood victims in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh provinces in October 2010.
