Vietnam successfully chairs ASEAN Committee in South Africa
Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa Vu Van Dung has handed over the post of Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Pretoria (APC) to the Indonesia Ambassador.
Hosting a meeting of ambassadors of ASEAN countries in South Africa at the end of his term as APC Chairman, Dung reviewed the committee’s activities over the past six months, including APC meetings, ASEAN Sports and Family Day and golf tournaments for offices of APC military attaches.

APC members discussed specific measures to intensify their cooperation, raise public awareness of ASEAN and promote relations between the ten-member group and South Africa.
Accordingly, the APC will coordinate with the host country to organise a celebration of the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN on ASEAN Day (August 8) and exchange programs between APC and representatives of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
At the same time, the committee will call on businesses to participate in the Africa & ASEAN Business Expo (AABE) scheduled to be held in Johannesburg city at the end of this year and increase people-to-people exchanges between ASEAN countries and South Africa.
At the meeting, APC ambassadors appreciated contributions made by the Vietnamese Embassy and Ambassador Dung in particular over the past tenure.
They also voiced their support for the Indonesian Ambassador as the new APC Chairman in order to organise more meaningful activities to strengthen ties between ASEAN and South Africa as well as regional countries.
