Opening the event, Viengthong Siphandone, ASEANSAI Vice President and President of the Audit Office Organization of Laos said that since ASEANSAI was established on November 16, 2011, the organization has focused on improving the capacity of member institutions, thus contributing to building states of the rule of law.

At the same time, ASEANSAI has concentrated on fostering intra-bloc solidarity as well as cooperation with the outsiders to raise its role in the region and the world, while completing its organization to meet requirements of the ASEAN development in the future, as well as the growth of the audit sector of member countries.
Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonesay Siphandone said that the congress is a chance for leaders of the audit sector of the ASEAN countries to discuss their plan of actions, contributing to completing the ASEAN Community Vision effectively in various fields, such as the building of states of the rule of law, preventing and fighting corruption and encouraging investment.
Participants at the event reviewed the performance of the ASEANSAI Committees in the 2016-2017 period, defined targets for the upcoming tenure, shared experience and expertise as well as identifying joint goals of the countries to ensure sustainable growth of each state and the whole community.
They re-elected Laos’ Audit Office Organization as the President of the ASEANSAI in the 2018-2019 tenure. The State Audit of Vietnam was elected as the Chair of the ASEANSAI Strategic Plan Committee for the 2018-2019 period. Indonesia will continue taking the charge of ASEANSAI Secretary General.
They also passed the action programs of the ASEANSAI committees for the 2018-2019 period.
Speaking with Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Laos, Vietnamese State Auditor General Ho Duc Phoc highlighted ASEANSAI’s contributions to improving the capacity of member SAIs through diverse conferences, seminars and training courses for sharing experience, documents and infrastructure in new audit areas such as the environment, information technology and operation.
Phoc said that as one of the four founders of the ASEANSAI and Chair of the Strategic Plan Committee, Vietnam’s State Audit has shown strong performance and contributed to strengthening relationship among member countries as well as among countries implementing ASEANSAI targets.
Vietnam has actively engaged in supporting other members in personnel training, sharing experience in areas of its strength.
Phoc also affirmed the Vietnam State Audit’s commitments in working closely with the ASEANSAI committees and members and involving in all activities of ASEANSAI.
