A ground-breaking ceremony for the project was attended by General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State President Bounnhang Volachith, Chairwoman of the Lao NA Pany Yathotou, Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, among others.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Lao NA Somphanh Phengkhammy said the building received a funding of 100 million USD from Vietnam, committed by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong during his visit in November 2016 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

He expressed his profound gratitude for the Vietnamese Party, State and people for the gift to the Lao counterparts, believing that the new building, which lies across 23,400 sq.m next to Thatluang, a sacred place symbolizing Laos’s solidarity, will become a symbol of friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said the groundbreaking ceremony will contribute to the success of the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Year of Friendship and Solidarity, during which, the two countries have chances to educate Party members and people from walks of life, especially young generations, on the bilateral special solidarity.

Vietnam will do its best with the highest political determination together with Laos to build the NA House imbued with Lao cultural identity for the sake of prosperity between the two nations and well-being of the two peoples, he said.

The Vietnamese guest vowed to direct the two countries’ agencies to ensure that the building will be put into use by 2021 when Laos’s special events are scheduled.
