AMM Retreat summoned for situation in Rakhine, Myanmar
PANO – The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Retreat (AMM Retreat) was held on December 12 in Yangon, Myanmar, under the chair of the Foreign Minister of Laos, the ASEAN Chair 2016.

At the meeting, Myanmar’s State Advisor and Foreign Minister, Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi reported recent complicated situations in Rakhine state, which have drawn special attention from the regional and international opinion.
She also highlighted the Myanmar Government’s efforts to restore order and stability as well as to ensure peaceful lives of local people.
The Vietnamese delegation to the event was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung.
Speaking at the event, the head of the Vietnamese delegation applauded the informative report of the Myanmar Government, which updated delegates on the situation as well as showed its respect for other ASEAN member nations and the bloc’s solidarity.
The Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister also recognized the Myanmar Government’s efforts to restore the situation, hoping that the country would soon overcome the difficulty.
He also stated that Vietnam and other ASEAN countries would render appropriate support to Myanmar in line with ASEAN’s fundamental principles and on the basis of the bloc’s unity, if the country requested.
