The US’s Associated Press (AP) reported on February 26 that after disembarking from Air Force One, President Trump greeted Vietnamese officials at Noi Bai International Airport.

“A red carpet was rolled out by the stairs of the plane, and soldiers lined up at attention as Trump walked down the stairs and began shaking hands of the officials who were there to greet him on the tarmac,” it said.

According to AP, President Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong-un are to have discussions in hopes of building on an aspirational agreement they made at their first historic meeting in Singapore in June 2018.

Meanwhile, the French news agency AFP said Trump made no comment to reporters on his aircraft but had previously tweeted his hopes for a "very productive" meeting, reiterating that North Korea could enjoy economic riches if it gave up its nuclear weapons.

The US President also expressed his hope that Chairman Kim will make a wise decision.

Yonhap news agency of the Republic of Korea (RoK) reported that Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh was among officials welcoming President Trump and his entourage at the airport.

Trump is scheduled to meet with Kim on February 27-28 to seek a deal on dismantling Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons program in exchange for US concessions.

The agency cited the White House as saying that the leaders will have a brief one-on-one on February 27 evening, followed by a dinner with two officials on each side.
