The annual event was jointly held by the Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Associations (VIFCEA), the Vietnam Association of Architects, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and the Ministry of Construction.

It aims to honor excellent graduation projects by students from architectural and engineering universities in Vietnam.
The Loa Thanh Awards 2021 received 188 projects in various fields by students from 20 universities across the country.
According to the Board of Examiners, many projects were elaborately implemented, the topics were close to reality. But, none of them discussed topics related to disaster response, pandemic prevention and control or problems in remote areas.
Thus, this year there was no special prize. The organizing panel awarded five first prizes, 13 second prizes, 23 third prizes, and 23 consolation prizes.
