Vietnam reaffirms continued contributions to UNGA President’s Office
Candidate for the position of President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Annalena Baerbock, former German Foreign Minister, held an informal dialogue in New York on May 15 (local time) with the Asia-Pacific Group and all UNGA members to share her vision and priorities if elected.
Annalena Baerbock affirmed her commitment to advancing the U.N. reform and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring a transparent process in selecting the next U.N. Secretary-General, accelerating climate action, and upholding human rights.

Speaking at the session and in bilateral discussions, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the U.N., appreciated Germany’s strong commitment to promoting multilateralism and its practical contributions to U.N. activities. He affirmed that Vietnam values its bilateral relations with Germany and always maintains active and close cooperation with the European country at multilateral forums.
The diplomat called on the UNGA President candidate to promote the issues of Vietnam’s concern during her tenure, including the upholding of and respect for international law and the U.N. Charter, and ensuring a transparent U.N. reform process with the full participation of all member states.
Giang also expressed Vietnam’s support for Baerbock’s vision and priorities and affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to continue close and comprehensive cooperation with the UNGA President and the Office of the UNGA President to jointly realize the shared goals.
