VFFCC chair urged people of all walks of life to plant trees
PANO - President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Nguyen Thien Nhan on February 6 attended a tree-planting festival in Vinh Phuc province. At the event, he stressed the need to make tree planting a regular practice of Vietnamese people.

Mr. Nhan said that on November 28, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh launched the tree-planting festival with the hope that the country would become more beautiful with a more favorable climate and have a sufficient supply of timber in the following 10 years.
Accordingly, on January 1, 1960, President Ho Chi Minh and thousands of Hanoians held the first tree-planting festival at Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi.
Since then, the festival has become a movement and a good practice of Vietnamese people during the Lunar New Year (Tet), contributing to environmental protection and social-economic development.
Hailing the idea of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association and the Vinh Phuc provincial People’s Committee to hold the tree-planting festival to plant 800,000 trees, Mr. Nhan suggested that the Vietnam Fatherland Front's organizations at all levels coordinate with local authorities, and the agricultural sector to assess the efficiency of tree planting in the past years and to take more effective measures for the coming years.
The goal is to make tree planting part of Vietnamese practices, bringing practical benefits to socio-economic development in each locality by 2020, in celebration of 60 years since the day Uncle Ho launched the tree-planting festival, he stressed.
