Power supply programme to cover rural, mountainous, island areas
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued Decision 1740/QD-TTg approving a target programme for power supply in rural, mountainous and island regions in the 2016-2020 period.
The objective of the programme is to provide electricity for households in rural, mountainous and island areas to enable them to escape poverty and improve their living conditions.
It aims to contribute to protecting political security and social order and safety, while safeguarding national defence and sovereignty over national territory, seas and islands, while giving more favourable conditions for economic restructuring of the areas.
Specifically, until 2020, the programme will supply stable power services to households in the areas from the national power grid, new and renewable power resources with a target of giving power access to almost all rural households.
Seventeen communes, with 8,890 villages and 1.05 million households are expected to benefit from the programme, which also aims to connect small and middle-sized pumping stations in 13 Mekong Delta localities to national power grid, while strengthening electricity supply to island localities.
Total cost of the programme is about 30.11 trillion VND (1.29 billion USD) sourced from central budget in line with the middle-term public investment for the 2016-2020 period.
