72 years ago, on July 27, 1947 in the area of the July 27 National Historical Relic Site, 300 local troops and people joined a meeting to hear the announcement of a letter by President Ho Chi Minh to observe July 27 as the National Wounded Soldiers’ Day. The day was renamed as Vietnamese Wounded Soldiers’ and Martyrs’ Day in 1955.

The National Historical Relic Site for Fallen Volunteer Troops of Company 915, Unit 91 Bac Thai aims to commemorate 60 volunteer youths of Company 915, Unit 91 Bac Thai who sacrificed themselves on the eve of Christmas 1972 while transporting goods from Luu Xa railway station in Thai Nguyen to the Southern theater.

* On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue and leaders of Nghe An province laid wreaths and lit incense at the Vietnam-Laos International Cemetery and the Truong Bon Historical Relic Site.

The delegates paid tribute and showed respect to those who had sacrificed their lives for national independence and sovereignty and to serve the international service.

The missions visited and handed over gifts to Vietnamese heroic mother Nguyen Thi Hue and two wounded veterans in Nghe An’s Nghi Loc district.

A mission of General Department II visits a wounded soldier in Thanh Phuoc commune

* General Department II under the Defense Ministry provided free health check-ups, health counseling, and medicines for over 300 policy beneficiaries as well as granted 300 gifts to local sick and wounded soldiers and national contributors in Thanh Phuoc commune, Go Dau district, Tay Ninh province, in the presence of Lieutenant General Phan Van Viet, Political Commissar of General Department II.

A mission of General Department II offered incense to Vietnamese heroic mother Nguyen Thi Vu, presented gifts to a local veteran honored with tittle “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” and another wounded veteran, and handed over mementos to the authorities of Go Dau district and Thanh Phuoc commune.

The total expense for these activities was nearly VND 130 million.

* At the Gia Lai provincial Martyrs’ Cemetery, more than 1,400 troops and youths from the province and military units stationed in the province lit candles to pay tribute to fallen soldiers.

* The Women’s Association of Army Corps 1 have launched a number of programs such as offering incense to martyrs and cleaning martyrs’ cemeteries, inquiring after and presenting gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers and national contributors in Quang tri province.

* Phu Tho province has held an artistic performance in praise of heroic martyrs. Reportedly, over 18,000 people of Phu Tho have sacrificed during national resistance wars.

At the event, the Phu Tho Newspaper and locally-based companies offered money in support of the construction of four gratitude houses for local national contributors.

Since the beginning of this year, Phu Tho has spent about VND 10 billion on nearly 60,000 gifts to policy beneficiaries in the province.

* Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province held a ground-breaking ceremony for a stele in commemoration of heroic martyrs at the Quan Ngang Relic Site in Gio Quang commune.

* The Military Medical Academy handed over two gratitude houses to the families of Mr. Vo Cong Hung and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bon in My Son and Nhan Son communes, Do Luong district, Nghe An province, respectively.

On this occasion, the school presented gifts to 22 sick and wounded soldiers and national contributors in the two communes.

* In Ho Chi Minh City, Military Hospital 175 under the Defense Ministry launched its social welfare fund with the aim at better caring for policy beneficiaries and national contributors in need.

* Hai Phong city has hosted a gathering to grant gifts to nearly 200 local Vietnamese heroic mothers, wounded veterans, and martyrs’ relatives, as well as to give money in support of the construction of several gratitude houses to wounded veterans and martyrs’ relatives.
