At present, Song Tu Tay Island has four seawater desalination systems using solar and wind energy to generate over 800 litres per hour. The filtered water meets all quality standards.
The installation is part of a pilot project invested by the Vietnam People’s Navy Command in association with the National Oil and Gas Group and the Back Khoa Solar Investment Joint Stock Company (SolarBK), completed in late April.
By September, the salt-water filters will be installed on all islands and features of Truong Sa archipelago to ensure enough fresh water for troops and islanders, and also fishermen at fishing grounds around the archipelago during the dry season.
Besides, the project is expected to improve the islands’ underground water sources.
