The official said 80 out of the total 200 km of the local coastline are being eroded.

There are 25km of eroded sea dyke in Tho Son commune, Hon Dat district, requiring about 625 billion VND to repair. To date, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has allocated 100 billion VND for the work.

The Kien Giang People’s Committee has decided to list three sections spanning 15.7 km in An Bien and An Minh districts as facing an emergency because of erosion. They need an investment of 333 billion VND.

Meanwhile, Kien Giang has other areas stretching 62.6 km in the districts of An Bien, An Minh and Kien Luong facing severe erosion that are in need of 659 billion VND.

In 2018, local authorities asked the Government to provide about 300 billion VND to improve seriously eroded parts, and the proposal was accepted.

The province received 172 billion VND from the World Bank’s loans to build coastal protection works with a length of 10 km in An Minh district.

It received 50 billion VND from the State reserve budget to improve 2.5 km of eroded dyke sections in An Bien district, and 80 billion VND from the fund for climate change and green growth to deal with dangerous landslides in Hon Dat district.
