Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan visited and presented gifts to welfare beneficiary families in the island district of Phu Quoc in the southern province of Kien Giang on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

The Vice President praised the ultimate sacrifice made by heroic Vietnamese mothers, war martyrs and war invalids together with their families during the national struggle for independence.

She commended the district authorities for their good work in providing support to those who rendered great services to the nation.

She requested the island district continue to effectively implement Party and State policies to benefit welfare policy families, Vietnamese heroic mothers, wounded soldiers and martyr families.

The leader also expressed her hope that the families would continue to display the noble tradition of the Uncle Ho soldiers, serving as examples for the young generation to follow.

The leaders offered incense and floral tributes to the fallen soldiers at the Phu Quoc district martyr cemetery.

Phu Quoc has 372 martyr families with 656 martyrs, 176 war invalids, 27 heroic Vietnamese mothers and three Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces.

The district was honoured with the People’s Armed Forces Hero title by the State.
