Legislators discussed draft amendments to the Law on the Organisation of the People’s Procuracy in a plenary meeting in Hanoi on October 27 as part of the ongoing National Assembly’s eighth session.

NA member Vu Xuan Truong from Nam Dinh province delivers his opinions at the meeting.

Ho Van Nam from the southern province of Dong Nai said the bill would increase the People’s Procuracy responsibility to protect human and civil rights, and properly address judicial violations.

Other opinions called for the People’s Procuracy to be able to exercise the right to prosecution as well as supervise the implementation of rights.

Regarding the right to start criminal proceedings in civil cases, several lawmakers agreed to task the People’s Procuracy with this job.

In the afternoon, lawmakers discussed the appropriate number of procurators working for the Supreme People’s Procuracy and their retirement age, amongst other issues.
