Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung spoke highly of the donations from the Vietnamese community to Lao flood-hit people in the central and southern regions earlier this month.
"These activities demonstrate the brotherhood and sharing between the two peoples," he added.
The Ambassador expressed his hope that the Vietnamese community in Laos will maintain and promote the fine tradition, to support the Lao locals to recover from consequences of the disaster and to make Laos more prosperous.
He also affirmed that the Embassy will soon transfer all the money received from the fundraising event to Laos' Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and then send it to Lao families affected by the recent severe flood.
After three hours, the event raised a total money of 184 million kip (more than 20,000 USD) and USD 4,755.
In the early days of September, Typhoon No.5 swept from Vietnam causing floods in southern and central Laos, and severe damages on both humans and property.
According to the Lao Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, floods killed 14 people and affected lives of more than 175,000 families in about 1,400 villages across six provinces. The natural disaster also destroyed around 150,000 hectares of rice and 251 hectares of crops and damaged many houses, bridges and roads.
