Naval troops assist fishermen in fishing safely and legally
PANO - The Naval Region 2 Command, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Border Guard Command of Binh Thuan province, carried out a program entitled “The Vietnam People's Navy supports fishermen in fishing offshore” at Phan Thiet fishing port, Phan Thiet city, on September 16.

Under this program, Senior Colonel Dang Manh Hung, Deputy Commissar of the Naval Region 2 Command, and his entourage visited and encouraged local fishermen. They provided the fishermen with the agreements on delimitation of maritime boundaries signed by Vietnam and other countries in the region and other legal documents on seas, safety, sustainability, and legal seafood exploitation and fishing with close attachment with environmental protection.
The local fishermen also got updated information about communication frequencies and the locations of piers that provide logistics and technical services, so that fishermen can receive assistance when in trouble while operating at sea.
On the occasion, the forces presented 500 national flags, 100 lifebuoys, 1,000 leaflets on the national seas and islands to fishermen on 20 trawlers which are about to go fishing offshore.
They also highlighted the important role of fishermen fishing at sea as a confirmation of national sovereignty and stressed that each fisherman should act as a guard for the national seas.
They thanked the fishermen for providing timely and important information for the Navy to handle any emerging situation and closely follow situational developments, thereby safeguarding national sovereignty, security, order, and safety at sea and on islands.
The program has been launched by the Naval Region 2 Command in Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Soc Trang provinces. It helps promote the close ties between troops and people and further build a firm people’s heart disposition in couple with a firm people’s security posture at sea.
