Reportedly, the prolonged drought and saltwater intrusion in Ca Mau province have caused serious shortage of fresh water in many communes in Nam Can district, threatening local people’s production, life, and other activities.

Under the direction of the Party Committee and leadership of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, Naval Flotilla 42 have given local policy beneficiary families and disadvantaged households 900 20-liter purified water jars. The unit has also called on Thuan Phat Aquatic Breeding Production Company to present locals with 100 boxes of instant noodles and five gifts worth VND 1 million each.

In addition, officers and soldiers of Naval Flotilla 42, in collaboration with local authorities, have instructed locals on how to save water, using hygienic water resources to protect their health, especially at the time that the drought and saltwater intrusion situation still develops complicatedly.

They have also disseminated information about the Vietnam People’s Army and the Vietnam Coast Guard, international and domestic law on sea and islands, including the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, the Law of the Sea of Vietnam 2012, the Law on Fisheries 2017, and the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard 2018.

Senior Colonel Duong Xuan Dung, Political Commissar of Naval Flotilla 42, said that in response to the current situation of drought and saltwater intrusion, the unit has pro-actively made thorough preparation, contacted and coordinated with local authorities, transported and provided purified water in a timely manner, thus sharing difficulties with local people and showing sense of responsibility and deep sentiment of the unit’s troops.
