The project was built by troops of Military Region 1 and the Cao Bang provincial Military Command at a total cost of VND 9.5 billion from the Ministry of National Defense’s funding.
After nearly two months of construction, the project was completed and handed over to Typhoon Yagi-affected people in Cao Bang.
Each house has an area of nearly 130 square meters, including a living room, three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a yard. The houses are single-story with load-bearing walls. Each household also received essential items such as beds, cabinets, and a water supply and electricity system.
Lung Cam is a H’mong ethnic minority village, with 100% of households being poor or near-poor. In September 2024, Typhoon Yagi caused severe flooding affecting 11 households (63 people). The village was completely isolated, with houses collapsed and crops destroyed, forcing the people to evacuate.
Given the urgent need for new housing, the Ministry of National Defense decided to donate to support the construction of the houses, with the hope that the people would have a safer living environment and be able to resume their normal life.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commander of Military Region 1 Major General Hoang Van Huu asked the managing board of project and contractors to quickly complete any unfinished tasks to hand over the houses to the local authorities and the people according to regulations.
He requested the Cao Bang provincial Military Command and Bao Lac district Military Command to actively advise local authorities on military and defense tasks, work closely with local departments and organizations to effectively implement hunger elimination and poverty reduction, strengthen defense, and deal with natural disasters, fires, and diseases.
On this occasion, the Military Region 1 Command awarded certificates of merit to nine organizations and 32 individuals for their outstanding achievements in participating in the resettlement project for Lung Cam village.
