According to a report of the standing board of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on December 18, torrential rains in the Central provinces took a heavy toll of human life and property: 17 deaths, 2 missing and 14 injured, hundreds of thousands of collapsed houses and thousands of hectares of rice and crops inundated, roads deluged or eroded, some localities isolated in the region.

* The Quang Tri provincial Military Command and Divisions 315, 307 mobilized its troops to support people in flood-hit areas in overcoming the consequences.

Accordingly, the command presented five tons of dried rations to 7 localities, provided health checkups to 500 people, and cleaned up kindergartens and hospitals, helping the locals stabilize their lives.

* The same day, Deputy Chairman of Thua Thien- Hue provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Phuong presented VND 3 million to Nguyen Thanh Phuong for his bravery to save distressed people in floods.

Phuong, 73, in Thanh Tuyen hamlet, Thuy Thanh commune, Huong Thuy town, was a combatant in the anti-American resistance war. He was exposed to Agent Orange/Dioxin.
