Minister Phan Van Giang pays tribute to late and former military leaders
PANO - On July 23, in commemoration of the 77th anniversary of Wounded Soldiers and Martyrs’ Day (July 27, 1947 - 2024), General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense, paid tribute to late Senior Lieutenant General Le Kha Phieu, former General Secretary of the Communist Party and former Director of the General Department of Political Affairs of the Vietnam People's Army, as well as late General Phung Quang Thanh, former Politburo member and former Minister of National Defense.
During the visits, Minister Phan Van Giang and his delegation offered incense to pay tribute to former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu and General Phung Quang Thanh for their significant contribution to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the nation, and the process of building the military, reinforcing defense, and protecting the Fatherland. Minister Phan Van Giang inquired after the family members of these former leaders and expressed hope that they would continue their family's traditions, contributing to the national development.

On the same day, Minister Phan Van Giang also visited and presented gifts to General Pham Van Tra, former Politburo member and former Minister of National Defense; General Ngo Xuan Lich, former Politburo member and former Minister of National Defense; and Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy, former member of the Party Central Committee and former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly. Minister Phan Van Giang affirmed that these leaders, in their respective positions, made significant contribution during the national construction and defense cause. After the country's reunification, they, along with the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Central Military Commission, led the country to advance the country's renewal, industrialization, and modernization cause, thereby enhancing the overall strength of the military and firmly protecting the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Minister Phan Van Giang shared with the former leaders the achievements of the entire military in the first half of 2024. Under the leadership and direction of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, the entire military comprehensively completed all tasks. Notably, the whole military maintained strict combat readiness, advised the Party and the State in a timely manner to effectively handle situations, firmly protected national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensuring political security and social order nationwide.
Additionally, Minister Phan Van Giang briefed the former leaders on some key tasks that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense will focus on in the coming period. He expressed his hope that General Pham Van Tra, General Ngo Xuan Lich, and Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy would continue to pay attention to the military’s development and provide valuable opinions to help strengthen the military to fulfill its assigned missions in the time to come.
