GDP’s Director attends Coast Guards’ Party Committee conference
PANO – General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army, attended the conference of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command on December 23.
At the event, General Cuong was briefed on the task performance of the Coast Guard Command’s Party Committee in 2021. Accordingly, the committee has focused on directing affiliated units to follow the defense ministry’s directives, maintain combat readiness, grasp situations at sea, and provide timely advice for higher levels to deal with emerging maritime issues in any circumstances. The organ has also collaborated with functional agencies of the defense ministry to build concrete plans to undertake the drug prevention and fight programs issued by the government and the defense ministry for the 2021-2025 period. In addition, it has completed legal documents on managing and protecting the sea and building forces, creating a legal corridor for the coast guards to undertake missions.

The Vietnam Coast Guard Command has regularly exchanged information related to marine security with relevant law enforcement forces from other countries via a hotline. They have also conducted search and rescue for fishermen, prevented illegal entry and exit by sea, and fought against the COVID-19 pandemic.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, General Cuong applauded efforts of the coast guard troops in 2021, and at the same time required the Party Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command to continue grasping the Party’s guidelines on military-defense affairs and all resolutions of higher levels, enhancing research and forecast of possible situations, and fulfilling all assigned tasks.
Additionally, he urged them to collaborate well with local authorities and relevant forces to firmly safeguard the national sovereignty over sea and islands, build politically-, ideologically- and structurally-strong units, while enhancing external relations with other coast guard forces in the region.
The GPD director required the unit to seriously and effectively implement Conclusion No.21-KL/TW on 25 October 2021 of the Party Central Committee on accelerating the building and rectification of the Party and the political system as well as the campaigns to promote virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and fight again corruption and wastefulness in the military.
