Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and President of the Vietnam National Union of Students Bui Quang Huy stressed that in the current context, English is not only a foreign language for communication, but also an indispensable means for the Vietnamese youth to learn more about scientific and technological advances.

For young officers, English plays an important role in helping them successfully perform their security-defense tasks and apply scientific and technological advances at work.

He also asked young officers to continue strengthening their English skills, and expressed his belief that the movement of learning English among young officers will increasingly develop, thereby supporting them to complete their assigned political tasks.

During three months, 15 contestants competed in two rounds. They participated in two parts, including a round of multiple-choice questions and an eloquent contest.

The organizing panel presented the first prize to First Lieutenant Nguyen Truong Giang from the People’s Police Academy (PPA), two second prizes to Captain Tran Hai Duong (the Signal Corps), Second Lieutenant Ha Thi Huyen (Nghe An provincial Police Department), and three third prizes to First Lieutenant Bui Bich Lien (Central Military Hospital 108) and student Duong Thi Tra (People’s Security University).

Five winners will advance to the national final round of the Second English Olympiad for young officers in 2020.
