In the solemn atmosphere, Gen. Cuong and the delegation offered flowers and incense in remembrance of Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Kha Phieu, former Party General Secretary, former Director of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP); Gen. Le Duc Anh, former Politburo member, former President, and former Minister of National Defense; Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap, former Politburo member, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers, and former Minister of National Defense; Gen. Chu Huy Man, former member of the Politburo, former Vice Chairman of the State Council, and former GDP’s Chief.

The delegation also paid tribute to former members of the Politburo, former Ministers of National Defense: Gen. Van Tien Dung, Gen. Doan Khue, Gen. Phung Quang Thanh; former Politburo member, former GDP’s Director Gen. Nguyen Chi Thanh; former Chiefs of the General Staff and former Deputy Defense Ministers Gen. Hoang Van Thai and Gen. Le Trong Tan; Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, former Deputy Defense Minister and Lt. Gen. Nguyen Hai Bang, former Deputy Director of the National Defense Academy.

While offering incense, Gen. Cuong expressed respect and profound gratitude to the late Party, State, and military leaders for their great contribution to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the nation, military building, and national defense consolidation.

At the homes of former leaders of the Party, State, and military, the Chief of the General Staff inquired after their relatives’ health and hoped that they will continue to promote family’s traditions and join hands to contribute to the development of the country and the growth of the military.

On the occasion, Gen. Cuong presented gifts and wished relatives of former Party, State, and military leaders a peaceful and happy traditional Tet.

Earlier the same day, Gen. Cuong visited and extended New Year greetings to Lt. Gen., Hero of the People’s Armed Forces Dang Quan Thuy, former Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly. During the conversation, the Chief of the General Staff, on behalf the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, briefed Gen. Thuy on the military’s achievements in military and defense affairs in 2023 and key tasks in 2024. He wished Gen. Thuy and his relatives good health and happiness and hoped that the former official will continue to follow and contribute constructive ideas to building a stronger military which is capable of excellently completing missions assigned by the Party, State, and people.
